Lost Minds is a creative beer that is made by playing around with the flavors of the hops. The beer is kettle soured, unlike others that could be soured in oaks or barrels.

When you taste this beer, it starts out fruity, then follows with tingly hop flavors that last, but not for too long. In most IPA’s, the hopiness hangs on even after the drink has been fullly drank. After all of that happens, the tartness of the beer sort of melts in your mouth and over your tongue.  There is quite a bit of acidity in this beer, but it does not cut through everything. This beer is springy, which makes it a good release for this time of the year, being that spring is here and summer coming. A true lush drink and one that will inebriate your mind and senses.

Lost Minds sits at 7% ABV., which is a nice meet in the middle content for this drink. Brewery Vivant recommends you use a tulip glass when drinking this beer to really release the aroma of the hops.

While at Brewery Vivant, to pair with Lost Minds, their Soft Pretzel and Beer Cheese was ordered. The pretzels were very warm, lightly salted, and easy to pull apart. These delicious pretzel buns were from Nantucket Bakery, which is also in Grand Rapids. The cheese was very easily spreadable, herby, and warm as well. Having the pretzel and cheese spread was a good choice for this beer because of the flavor that goes through the body of the beer as it is drank and because of the style of beer. The IPA worked well with the darkness of the pretzel and the creaminess of the cheese.

With this experimental beer, you could go from any dark foods to any light foods, and really anything in between. Like the brewers did to come up with this beer, experiment! However, whatever you do, make sure to go to Brewery Vivant or retailers that sell, and prepare to lose your mind with their newest IPA “Lost Minds”.
