Grand Rapids Soccer Match Celebrates Career of Cuauhtémoc Blanco

Mexico’s most popular clubs, Aguilas Del America and Chivas De Guadalajara classified as “El Super Clásico,” met as a part of an international farewell tour for Cuauhtémoc Blanco.
Before the main event, a smaller match took place between Grand Rapids, Mich., and Kalamazoo, Mich. All three soccer teams played at Houseman Field on Fountain Street in Grand Rapids. The exhibition match iniciated at 5:00 p.m. Although the American team had more fans and support, it lost the showdown 5 to 4. However, it was a chance for fans to watch veterans on both teams play.
Among those representing Chivas was Martin “El Pulpo Zuniga,”Snoopy Perez, Lupillo Castaneda, Rafa Medina, Ramon Ramirez, Diego Martinez, “El Pirata Castro,” Adolfo “El Bofo” Bautista, Missael Espinoza and Nacho Vasquez.
Besides Blanco, Aguilas America will feature former Mexican legends Adolfo Rios, Andrés Chitiva, Alvin Mendoza, Efrain “Cuchillo” Herrera, Gringo Castro, Isaac Terrazas, Fabian Estay, Marco Reyna and Reinaldo Navia.
Blanco is a soccer legend who won the Silver Ball and the Silver Shoe awards in the 1999 FIFA Confederations Cup. He also received the most valuable player award from the Mexico Primera Division four times. He has the distinction of being Mexico’s second top scorer in FIFA World Cup and Copa Libertadores tournament. Click here to see all Chivas vs America pictures
