Spend Spring Break with Robots, Animals, Watching Planetarium Shows and More at the Grand Rapids Public Museum This Year!

This Spring Break visit the Grand Rapids Public Museum (GRPM) and spend your week with The Robot Zoo! Visitors will enjoy venturing through this new exhibit, as well as enjoy new planetarium shows Starlight Safari and Breaking News from Outer Space and the return of Dark Side: The Light Show, and free with general admission hands-on activities for the whole family all week long!

Whether on a stay-cation or planning to travel to Grand Rapids, the GRPM has activities planned from April 2 to 10 for families this year. Venture through The Robot Zoo until 8 p.m. at the GRPM with special extended evening hours during Spring Break, April 4 The newly opened exhibition, The Robot Zoo, explores the biomechanics of robot animals to learn how real animals work. Eight larger than life animals demonstrate how these animals’ bodies function shown through familiar household products and technology. This exhibit includes more than 20 hands-on games and activities great for children to learn more about these animals!

Families will play “Swat the Fly” testing their reaction time to a fly’s, shoot a chameleon tongue to catch lunch and manipulate the oversized robotic animals to see how they interact with their real environments. This exhibit is great for ages 3 and older, with something for everyone to play with and learn. This exhibit is free to The Museum’s Galleria will be filled with more hands-on crafts and activities that are free with general admission. Create your own robotic creature to take home and play with oversized games. Activities will take place in the Museum’s Galleria Monday, April 4 through – Saturday, April 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Visit new shows in the Museum’s Chaffee Planetarium for added on value! Starlight Safari is a state-of-the-art globetrotting adventure that explores animal constellations across the continents. Interact with a live presenter to test your knowledge of the night sky and find out more!

Debuting during Spring Break, Breaking News from Outer Space is a space update planetarium show. With advancements in technology every day, NASA is discovering new information about our universe daily. This show will highlight new discoveries, with April shows highlighting new images and information on Pluto, Planet Nine and much more! Beginning in May, this show will run the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. and highlight the recent discoveries of the month before, making each show The highly popular, GRPM Chaffee Planetarium original show Dark Side: The Light Show is back for Spring Break! Visitors experience Pink Floyd’s iconic album “The Dark Side of the Moon” as never before in this one-of-a-kind light show, featuring stunning 4k visuals, brilliant LED sequences and incredibly clear 5.1 surround sound. It’s an unforgettable rock and roll journey.
