Women’s World Cup Player Abby Wambach Addressed at National Press Club

U.S. Women’s World Cup winner Abby Wambach, the world’s all-time leading international goal scorer, spoke at a National Press Club luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015. Wambach discussed being a member of the 2015 world champions that defeated Japan 5-2, and its impact on women’s soccer and the future of the game and women’s sports.
As a forward for the U.S. team, Wambach has made 252 international caps, or appear ances, and has scored 184 international goals. She debuted on the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2001 and is a six-time U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the year and
the 2012 FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year.
Wambach has played on four World Cup teams and is also a two- time Olymic gold medalist.
