Salsa Nights at Pietros a Grand Rapids Tradition

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

When you think of salsa nights in Grand Rapids, Mich., you probably think of Cecilia Cofino and Sergio Kurquis. They sponsor salsa nights at Pietro’s Italian Restaurant and is known as the longest-running salsa nights entertainment in the city.

Cecilia has been playing salsa music for more than 10 years. The immigrant from La Havana, Cuba, makes the music fun for all people by including modern salsa, bachata, cumbia, merengue and traditional music in her performance. When she plays, she gets the crowd involved by playing “Let’s Get Down.” Every time she plays it, the audience stands up and dances to the song. Once a month, audience members can hear a live Latin band or take part in a competition.

Salsa nights Pietro’s is more than a nightclub, is a big family that gets together to celebrate a big party.” Doug McKinnon.

Salsa nights at Pietro’s begin at 9 p.m. and continue until 2 a.m. The cost to see on a regular night is $8 or $10 with a live band. It remains the safest place in Grand Rapids to dance salsa.
