Grand Rapids, Michigan: The Grand Rapids Public Museum (GRPM) announced today that the exhibit The Discovery of King Tut has been extended an additional two weeks, through February 14, 2016.  Visitors now have an extra two weeks to experience what it was like for Howard Carter and his team when they first discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922.

Featuring more than 1,000 scientifically produced recreations hand-crafted by Egyptian artisans, The Discovery of King Tut recreates the awe and marvel of the moment of discovery. Visitors enter an overwhelming treasure trove to have an unbelievable glimpse into the greatest archeological discovery of the 20th century: Tutankhamun’s tomb.

Through a partnership with SC Exhibitions, Premier Exhibitions, Inc. has brought the exhibition to North America, making its third stop on its U.S. tour in Grand Rapids at the GRPM. This exhibition uniquely allows the public to enjoy the magnificent splendor of these priceless Egyptian treasures without ever harming the fragile, sensitive originals – many of which are no longer permitted to tour outside of Egypt.

Tickets for The Discovery of King Tut are available online at grpm.org or by calling 616.456.3977. Visitors are encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of time to avoid lines.

Tickets include admission to The Discovery of King Tut, admission to the Museum’s core exhibits, admission to American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition until it closes on January 17 and a free carousel ride. Museum members receive discounted admission.

“The exhibit has been very popular, and we’re excited to give those who have not gotten a chance to see it, to do so in these extra days the exhibit will be in Grand Rapids,” said Kate Moore, VP of Marketing and PR for the GRPM.

The GRPM brings world-renowned archaeologist and Egyptologist to a sold out crowd on Tuesday, Jan 12 to discuss “Pyramids – King TUT and Cleopatra – Recent Discoveries” as part of The Discovery of King Tut exhibition. Countless excavations, research projects, publications, television documentaries and lecture tours have made him known to a wide audience. Dr. Hawass will, in addition to Tutankhamun, take as his subject matter the search for the tomb of Queen Nefertiti, new insights on the tombs in the Valley of the Kings and the exciting research into the tombs of Cleopatra and Mark Anthony.

The Discovery of King Tut is sponsored by Merrill Lynch/Bank of America, David and Carol Van Andel Family Foundation, Meijer, Amy and Steve Van Andel, WOOD TV8, WOOD Newsradio, Mlive Media Group, Miller Johnson, Blair & Sara Lachman, Chris & Kim Branoff, Spectrum Health, Kennari Consulting, Scott & Maggie Lancaster, The Haveman Group, Kava House, J.
