Craft beer brewing has been around for a really long time and has a rich history. Over the years, the history of craft beer has evolved into many new traditions and many brewers have focused towards creating brews that are environment-friendly, innovative and provides a new taste and flavor that consumers demand. Let’s take a quick look at three local craft beers that offer great taste and flavor.

Wizard Burial Ground

Style: Abt/Quadrupel

If you are looking for a great quad you should give Wizard Burial Ground a try. This quadruple is a Belgian-style creation that is inspired from the Trappist brewers of Belgium. Made by Brewery Vivant, Wizard Burial Ground certainly offers a great taste that you would want to try out. The beer is aged in bourbon barrels for a year that brings in the deep red, garnet and brown hues to it. The beer is a full-bodied beer with a rich malty palate. The initial taste of the beer is sweet followed by a bitterness that gives it a distinct flavor. While it seems like a heavy beer, but Wizard Burial Ground is surprisingly light and clear allowing a great beer experience. The sweet taste of the beer seems like candi sugar, raisins, dates, plums and prunes and has a note of vanilla to it. The oak flavor gradually seeps in because of the barrel aging. The beer smells like a burnt caramel and also has oak and bourbon tones to it. Wizard Burial Ground also has low carbonation and therefore there is not much of a fizz factor to it. Overall, Wizard Burial Ground is a great quad that has transformed into a great craft beer due to barrel aging process.

 

Grapefruit IPA

If you are thirsty and if you want to buy something that can keep you cool for the summer, Michigan’s Grapefruit IPA is the craft beer you should choose. This is a first of its kind beer that offers a refreshing citrus flavor that no other beer can offer. Brewed by Perrin Brewing Company, this beer is not very punchy in flavor, but it has a sweet taste to it which makes it very unique in its category. Grapefruit IPA certainly brings in the combination of citrus fruits and therefore it has a light floral and citrus and grapefruit smell to it which works on an aromatic level. The beer tastes like a juicy pink breakfast grapefruit. If you enjoy a fruity beer that brings you a wholesome flavor of the fruit Grapefruit IPA is the one you should try. The beer has a hazy light gold color with a lingering white foamy ring at the top. Grapefruit IPA is a light bodied beer with a dry crisp finish to it because of the soft carbonation. The initial taste of the beer is bitter, but gradually the sweetness of the grapefruit along with other citrus fruits and vanilla overcomes the bitterness.

Brewed by Bell’s Brewery Inc, Amber Ale is a dark ale that you must try out. If you prefer malted beer Bell’s Amber Ale has the thing you need. The ale has a dark amber hue to it and focuses on the toasted malt to bring in more character and flavor to the beer. Amber Ale has a mixture of toasted grain and light caramel notes that combine floral, herbal and citrus notes. The initial flavor of the beer is sweet, but it is gradually capped by a crisp bitterness. If you are looking for a beer that combines with your food this is a good option to try out. You can even have it on its own because it certainly brings in a great taste that beer lovers would prefer. Amber Ale has a hoppy aroma to it with a slight caramel and malt smell. The perfect balance of hop and caramel allows it enjoy the beer even without food. It has a hazy brown amber color with a nice initial head and good lacing. It is a medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation and has a nice earthy texture to it with a slightly dry finish which makes it refreshing.
