Located on the corner of 1059 Wealthy St. SE, in Grand Rapids’ East Hills district is one of the newer, upscale soul food restaurants, Forty Acres. Modern, spacious and complete with a beautiful (and dog-friendly) patio, Forty Acres is an invitation for all to come and dine on food that brings comfort and conversation around the table.
After two months of opening, Forty Acres’ fresh views on community outreach has brought in a variety of people in the local community. In addition, the restaurant’s message of “Authentically American” is a celebration of black culture, history and heritage. Owners Lewis Williams and Darel Ross II came up with the name Forty Acres for their beautiful place as it was designed to provide its people with the relaxing and deserving atmosphere that was promised and never given dating back to 1863. This is the place that unapologetically provides customers with the sit-back, linger and enjoy every sip and bite experience, and the evidence of community is all around with smiles and laughter.
Forty Acres starts by offering a refreshing array of signature cocktails along with a great local wine and beer list. The Bad (punch) cocktail is sure to please, curated with ruby port, creme de cassis, simple syrup, fresh lemon juice, cranberry juice, ginger ale, berries and your tier choice of cognac.
With a variety of creole and southern favorites, Forty Acres will leave you feeling satisfied from their homestyle mac and cheese and other fabulous side dishes to the deliciously-filling and flavorful entrees. The grits are one hit with the patrons. Choose from a full bowl or beautifully displayed trio of grits, each representing amazing individual and complex flavors. The creamy Southern shrimp grits is a popular choice for many, but those that want to a spicy flare should try the House! All entrees are served with phenomenal detail. Recommended are the crab cakes surrounded by a sea of complementing corn succotash and graced with blue cornmeal.
Whether you are looking for a new Grand Rapids or West Michigan restaurant to enjoy a few cocktails out on a spacious side patio or dine inside for a few courses, Forty Acres will not disappoint. This soul food is soul good and will leave you instantly eager to come back for more!
